Dear everyone
Well we are back off
the trek .... !t was 29 days of walking uphill and downhill, so I am still
recovering!!!
The walk took us over
the 5416m Thorung La pass around the Annapurna mountains and we then
decided to walk to the Annapurna base camp into the middle of the
mountains. It's a good feeling to have finished the walking, it got quite
difficult towards the end ....but the scenery, people and variety of
wildlife made it all worthwhile.
We met a nice group of
people on the roof of the bus to the start of the trek and walked with
them up to the pass. There were a couple of Canadians, 2 English and a
German guy, hence the group photo.

The walk started off
in the rice paddles and roinforest of the lower Himalayas and then up to
the oak and rhododendron forests, eventually leading through pine forests
to above the tree line in Manong. Here we took a day acclimatising and
visited a Buddhist Lama, 300m uphill in a cove, who blessed our crossing
of the much-talked about Thorung La pass.
The altitude became a
bit of an issue towards the top of the pass, but we eventually made it to
the other side, taking only short breaths and suffering sore knees.
Achieving the climb of just over 1000m and then the descent of 1800m was
extremely , satisfying and everyone was very pleased with themselves''
upon reaching Muktinoth at the end of a very gruelling day.
It was then into the
rain shadow of the Himalayas and the Tibetan plateau of the Mustang region
for yet another change of scenery. After a day recuperating in the Hot
Springs at Tatopani we decided to add another week to our trek and visit
the Annapurna base camp at 4130m. This revealed a panorama of huge
mountains, a couple being 8000m+, it was awesome to be right in the middle
of them, if a bit cold!
With love and many
